Frequently Asked Questions

We’ve compiled answers to the most commonly asked questions to help you quickly find the information you need.

Yes. In addition to law and business, your child can also study computer science, criminology, education, policing, or psychology with us. No matter what course your child chooses, they can expect world-class teaching, more doors opened, and support climbing their chosen career ladder.

What sets us apart from other universities is the guiding principle that future lawyers, business leaders and professionals should learn from experts in a realistic and contemporary context, with plenty of practical, interactive engagement. This is why we keep our contact hours high and our teaching groups small.

We believe our undergraduate courses help your child understand how their learning applies to a real world content, as well as providing an exciting and challenging academic experience. Whilst we do not appear in the league tables, we were ranked Top 10 in the UK for Teaching in the 2024 National Student Survey.

We have also been awarded an overall Silver rating, with a Gold rating for Student Experience and Silver rating for the Student Outcomes in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) for 2023.

We do not guarantee accommodation, however, online accommodation portal provides helpful advice on choosing a property to rent near your campus, as well as a property listings search for students who have accepted a place with us.

We’re also often asked if university students have to live together. This is a personal choice. If your child would like to find other University of Law students to privately rent with, or they have a spare room in a house/flat, they can visit our Campus Facebook page to chat and make living arrangements with fellow students in their area. Simply go to Facebook and search for their campus group.

Our specialist employability teams are on hand to help your child find a local part time job alongside their studies. There is a job portal they can access which has all kinds of vacancies, from part time jobs to graduate jobs. They also have access to specialist support for help with everything from CV writing to interview skills.

Students have dedicated Academic Coaches and Student Journey Advisors, and our support teams provide advice and guidance for a range of student needs, whether it be research, health or personal wellbeing. With our Library & Study Skills team, Student Welfare Advisors and the Disability & Inclusion Support Service, you can be confident that no matter what happens during your child’s studies, we have their back.

If your young person misses the January UCAS deadline, there are still options available to them. Here’s what to do:

  1. UCAS Extra: After the January deadline, students who have not received any offers, or who wish to apply for a different course, can use UCAS Extra. This is available from late February to early July, allowing them to apply for courses that still have spaces.
  2. Clearing: Clearing is another great opportunity for those who didn’t get a place or missed the deadline, as long as they meet the entry requirements for their chosen course. Clearing opens on 5 July and helps students find available courses at universities that still have spaces.

For more information on supporting your young person through the undergraduate application process, be sure to check out our Parents’ Guide.
