I have a degree in Human Geography and I’m currently studying the MA Law (Conversion) course in Liverpool. In my role as Student Union Vice-President it’s important to ensure students have a great academic and social experience at the University. I want to be an active figure on campus, to be someone who other students can go to for advice or to suggest activities. Furthermore, I really enjoy advocating for student needs and desires.
I enjoy the energy of student life. Meeting and working with a diverse range of people has been one of the highlights so far. One of the initiatives I’m most proud of is the Christmas Food Drive I organised. To see the whole campus come together was really special and it motivated me to continue to work for my fellow peers. I also thoroughly enjoy the creative freedom to plan events. I truly believe being a Student Union leader makes a difference to student lives; this is what excites me most.
I’ve found balancing the role around my studies to be both demanding and rewarding. The role, and more specifically the experience of the role, will depend on what you put into it. I have enjoyed running events and love the sense of achievement that comes with pulling off a successful event. One of the ways I balance my roles is through ‘to-do’ lists. Simple, yet effective.
One obstacle I faced early on in the role was spreading awareness of the events. Initially, news would be spread via email. However, I have found a more effective method is creating good relationships with the lecturers to obtain their assistance, they help spread messages in their workshops too. This helps get the message out to more people and increase engagement.
I would like to give a special shoutout to my friends Amelia and Lydon. They are always first to step up to support me with both uni work and social events. Their friendship and guidance provides more support than they know and I’m very grateful. I would also like to thank Ellicia and Louise from Student Information, who not only support me within my role, but are such a positive influence on all students in Liverpool.
As someone who maybe didn't get involved as much as I should have in my undergraduate degree, I came to The University of Law with a mission. I wanted to be involved as much as possible and learn from different roles. When the opportunity for SU Vice-President arose, I knew it was for me. I like to think of myself as quite sociable and I hoped to bring some fun to what I knew would be a challenging year.
I’m hoping to become a solicitor within the world of environmental or energy law to support those who may have suffered environmental injustice. On a more personal level, I hope to still be involved in environmental and social committees as I really enjoy helping others where I can.
My favourite thing about the University is the range of activities to get involved with. Whether it’s opportunities to gain pro-bono experience, joining committees for student input, or even a role within the SU. The opportunities are endless.
I hope to be a memorable Vice-President. To do this, I’ve been creating a range of activities to impact as many people as possible, such as the food drive for a local food bank. Furthermore, as a geography graduate I have a passion for the environment and have been advocating for change on campus to aid the University towards its net zero goals. Finally, I understand my role is predominantly social and my biggest goal right now is organising the Liverpool and Chester Summer Law Ball.
